Former Olympic gold medallist and Tory MP, Sebastian Coe, teamed up with local Labour MP, Oona King, to give London’s Olympics bid a boost. Following the announcement that the London bid has been short-listed, they toured the areas where development for the Games will take place. These include several sites in Oona King’s Bethnal Green and Bow constituency where housing and improved transport is planned. The London bid aims to bring Olympic sports to venues such as Wimbledon, Lord’s, the new Wembley and Hyde Park. There will also be events in new, purpose built, world class, sports centres designed for Olympic athletes to achieve personal best performances.

Mr Coe said, “It is tremendous honour to be chosen by the International Olympic Committee as a candidate city. We are confident in our proposals and we’ll do everything in our power to justify the IOC’s faith in London as a potential Olympic host city”.

Oona King said, “We believe we have a great blueprint for a compact games in the heart of London. New facilities are planned, including redevelopment of the Lower Lea Valley bringing a much-needed increase in housing to the East End. The bid aims to strike a balance between new and old, and will showcase our world class venues. It will also be an inspiration to our young people”.
