What does My MP do?

Oona King was elected to represent the people of Bethnal Green and Bow in the House of Commons. It is her job to examine and scrutinise government legislation, and to raise issues that affect people in Bethnal Green and Bow. She asks questions of Ministers, including the Prime Minister, and has the opportunity to influence government policy.

Oona also campaigns for more money for Tower Hamlets, so that schools can be improved, new houses built, and old houses repaired. Oona lives in Tower Hamlets and she is aware of the need for more police on our streets and more funding for our local hospitals. Last year Tower Hamlets received the second largest allocation for health funding in the country. Oona also takes a strong interest in community projects which help improve the quality of life. She sits on the board of a number of these projects and is always keen to assist communities or charities with their ideas.

Oona receives hundreds of letters and phone calls every week, asking her for her assistance with individual problems, or wanting to know her opinion on various topics. Oona employs three caseworkers and two volunteers in her Constituency office. They help her investigate problems and respond to your queries. Oona also has a PA in her Westminster office.
